BIOGRAPHY

Steven Hudson works from Preti Flaherty's Augusta, Maine. For the Energy and Telecommunications Group and the Legislative, Regulatory and Governmental Services Group, Steve supports clients by taking their interests before Maine legislators and regulatory groups. A skilled lobbyist, Steve held several positions before joining Preti Flaherty. Most recently, Steve founded and operated Hudson & Hudson, Inc., a private lobbying firm. He also served as General Manager of Technical, Regulatory & Public Affairs for MeadWestvaco Corp., Assistant Director of National Affairs for Boise Cascade Corp. and as in-house counsel to Boise Cascade.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

• With Preti, Steve has represented manufacturers, energy developers, telephone companies, and electric utilities on a broad range of legislative issues affecting their interests. Steve was a key player in the passage of Maine's newest comprehensive energy legislation, which addressed Maine's energy infrastructure and completely restructured Maine's energy efficiency efforts.

• With Hudson & Hudson, Inc., Steve was a lead negotiator for Maine's business community on Maine's Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative legislation, working on innovative approaches to reducing the cost of compliance for this important piece of legislation.

• With MeadWestvaco, Corp., Steve managed corporate, technical, environmental, safety & health, and employee change issues for a large integrated pulp and paper mill. His activities included: obtaining environmental permits , developing and implementing a millwide crisis management plan, and handling media, advertising and public affairs on issues ranging from mill emergencies, news announcements and mill downsizing.

• With Boise Cascade, Steve served as the chair of the pulp and paper industry's grass roots and lobbying efforts on the US EPA's Cluster Rules for that industry, which proposed the most costly rules in EPA's history for air and water emissions for a single industry sector. Steve's efforts helped lead to an improved rule that has been successfully implemented across the industry.
