William D. Hagedorn practices with the Firm's Litigation Group in the Portland, Maine office. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation in federal and state court, as well as international and domestic arbitration matters, and has handled a wide variety of cases involving intellectual property, contractual issues, business torts, Medicare fraud and abuse, securities and the Federal Insecticide Rodenticide and Fungicide Act (FIFRA).
Prior to joining Preti Flaherty, Bill was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of McDermott, Will & Emery, one of the world's 20 largest law firms. Bill is a native of Southern California and recently relocated to Maine with his wife, who grew up in Maine, and their two sons.
REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
While practicing at McDermott, Will & Emery, Bill represented:
- One of world's leading medical device manufacturers in a three-month jury trial involving a $2 billion intellectual property dispute.
- An international tractor manufacturer as co-lead counsel at an arbitration hearing before a Tribunal appointed by in Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in Stockholm, Sweden.
- An international pesticide manufacturer as co-lead counsel at an arbitration hearing to resolve data compensation pursuant to federal legislation (FIFRA).
- The Equal Rights Center as lead outside counsel (pro bono) against District of Columbia landlords alleging racial discrimination arising from non-acceptance of Section 8 housing vouchers, leading to the highest settlement the Equal Rights Center had obtained to date in a case of its kind.
- An international semiconductor manufacturer in a successful appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
- One of country's largest hospital corporations in a False Claims Act qui tam lawsuit alleging preparation of fraudulent cost reports.
