Preti Flaherty Supports Nationally Recognized Investigative Reporting

Maine Monitor
September 21, 2022

Preti Flaherty has been recognized for supporting an award-winning investigative Journalism in Maine.  The non-profit Maine Monitor published a nationally recognized series titled “Eavesdropping in Maine Jails” revealing widespread recording of  phone calls between jail inmates and their attorneys, some of which were shared with police and prosecutors prior to trial. As a result of the series, Governor Janet Mills has advised the Maine Department of Corrections, in cooperation with state legislators, to develop a solution to the problem. The ongoing investigation is supported by the Pulitzer Center, Report for America, International Women’s Media Foundation, Investigative Editing Corps—with legal support provided by Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic at Yale Law School and Preti Flaherty.
